consulting acoustic engineers

March 11, 2010

Noise is typically the most severe indoor environmental problem in open plan offices, and speech is usually the most distracting source of noise. Apex provides acoustic consultancy services for many types of office developments, including speculative builds, mixed use buildings, university research centres, open plan designs, and facilities for local authorities and the emergency services.

Issues of acoustic privacy between cellular spaces and within an open plan office environment are addressed, and solutions provided to ensure appropriate conditions for the proposed use. Conflicts between the thermal use of an exposed soffit for cooling and acoustic absorption are frequently addressed.

Apex also regularly provides BREEAM assessment for credits under the Health and Wellbeing sections, which can include criteria for ambient noise in spaces, sound insulation and reverberation time limits.

Recent projects include:

Fire Control Centre, Co Durham

Care of the Ageing Research Unit, Newcastle upon Tyne

Derwentside Housing Association Eco Offices, Co Durham

North Tyneside Area Command Headquarters, Northumbria Police

Durham Social Services Greencroft Offices, Co Durham

Transport House, Newcastle University

PETeC Building, North East Technology Park, Sedgefield
