Air leakage testing

LEAP_Steel Farm Passivhaus_Northumberland_Mark Siddall-9654
Steel Farm, award winning Passivhaus design by LEAP’s Mark Siddall. We test in rural as well as urban locations

As well as being UKAS-accredited for air leakage testing for all types of developments to Building Regulations Part L1 and L2, we also sit on the Board of ATTMA.  We are experienced in testing all types of buildings from dwellings and low permeability buildings to large and complex buildings requiring multi-fan installations.

We can either arrange air leakage and sound insulation testing on a single site visit, or on separate visits to suit your programme of works.

By liaising closely with site management we ensure that testing is conducted with the minimum of disruption. In addition to the actual testing, our service includes temporary sealing of ventilation. In the event of a test failure, we conduct a thorough inspection of the dwelling, using smoke testing techniques if required to locate the air leakage sites. Immediate rectification by sealing holes is normally adequate to allow a re-test on the same site visit, without incurring further cost or delays.  We are also experienced with our thermographic imaging cameras to investigate air leakage, thermal bridging and thermal bypass issues.

Recent projects include:

  • Steel Farm, Northumberland, award winning Passivhaus design by Mark Siddall
  • Victoria Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne, student accommodation for Tolent
  • North East PSBP Schools for Sir Robert McAlpine
  • Mizen Head Hotel, Bamburgh, Esh Group
