Apex Acoustics regularly prepares technical reports in support of residential planning applications. We provide assessments of environmental noise in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), including the Noise Policy Statement for England (NPSE) and PAN 1/2011 in Scotland. We undertake assessments by direct measurement or according to Calculation of Road Traffic Noise (CRTN) and Calculation of Railway Noise (CRN).
The English Noise Policy Vision is decalred by Defra to:
Promote good health and a good quality of life through the effective management of noise within the context of Government policy on sustainable development.
We subscribe to the vision of effective management of environmental noise with innovative solutions and the integration with other disciplines. We undertake detailed assessments with industry-leading environmental noise modeling software, Cadna/A, to determine the noise impact on different facades, and to optimise the requirements for barriers, orientation, or other mitigating features.
Since the revision to the ventilation requirements, Part F of the Building Regulations in 2006, the potential for naturally ventilated facades subject to even moderate noise levels has been considerably reduced. This means that the importance to consider the acoustic requirements of any Planning Conditions early in the design process is paramount, as the building orientation and layout can affect the ventilation strategy options available.
We integrate the ventilation within the sound insulation strategy, to achieve a facade specification that satisfies both Planning and Building Regulations.
We regularly measure and assess ground borne vibration to BS 6472 and for re-radiated noise and provide mitigation advice where required.
Apex liaises with Local Authority officers throughout the process, to ensure that surveys and analysis are in accordance with their requirements.
